How Old Is Hurling?
Posted by Owen Jones in Games & Entertainment on February 13, 2012
While hurling is generally recognized as a Gaelic sport it should perhaps be called a Celtic one. For the history of hurling is in fact older than the history of Ireland itself. It started even before Christianity, arriving in Ireland more than three thousand years ago with the Celts.
The earliest references to hurling in Ireland is in early Irish laws dating from the fifth century. Hurling played a major part in early Irish mythology. Legendary Irish heroes such as Cuchulainnt and Fionn Mac Cumhail and his Fianna are both described as playing hurling.
Hurling is, in essence, a stick and ball game. The game is reckoned to be related to the games of shinty that is played primarily in Scotland, cammag on the Isle of Man and bandy that was played formerly in England and Wales.
The stick was, and indeed, still is called a hurley and the ball a sliotar. Early Irish lawn Law stated that the son of a r? (local king) could have his hurley banded in bronze, while others could only make use of copper. It was unlawful to confiscate a hurley.
The object of the game is for players to use the hurley to hit a small ball through the opponent’s goalposts either over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for one goal, which is equivalent to three points.
The sliotar can be caught in the hand and borne for not more than four steps, struck in the air, or struck on the ground with the hurley. It can be kicked or slapped with an open hand (the hand pass) for short-range passing. A player who desires to carry the ball for more than three steps has to bounce or balance the sliotar on the end of the stick and the ball can only be handled twice while in his possession.
From Planning To Execution – Tips For A Perfect Party
Posted by Sarah Walton in Games & Entertainment on January 28, 2012
Pulling off that perfect party or event can be so rewarding; however despite organising everything in advance there are always a few last minutes stresses on the night! We’ve selected some tips to help ensure that your party goes off with minimal stress and maximum impact and enjoyment.
Ensure you plan your party or event ahead of time and don’t to leave everything until the last minute. Create a list of all the tasks that need to be completed before the event and if in desperate need – delegate! Rope in friends and family if time appears to be running out too rapidly. Although those last moments before things kick off can be super stressful try not to let the pressure get to you. Forward planning can help avoid some of that inevitable last minute stress.
Ensure people are invited in plenty of time. Schedules fill up fast so get in there first. Let guests know all the information they need to be aware of; starting time, finishing time, date, dress code, address and other information for example if spouses are welcome or if the event will be held outside.
The atmosphere at a party contributes so much to the guests overall experience. Think of this when booking the venue, deciding on food and drink, and assigning a dress code, decorations, entertainment and music. Music is especially important; if you’re hiring for example a party dj be sure you’re selecting one that will appeal to the audience.
If possible try to make provisions for guest parking in advance. Limited parking can be a nightmare and cause a lot of stress. Inform guests about the parking arrangements in your invitation.

Posted by Edward Smith in Games & Entertainment on January 14, 2012
Online roulette is one of the most popular games played online. The rules of the game are quite straightforward, it’s exciting to play and it features some of the most attractive winning odds and payouts.
This traditional casino game is ideal for those players who are looking to have fun playing this popular game and have a chance to win some money. In this quick guide we’ll talk about the different roulette bets and how much you can expect to win if your numbers come up.
Roulette bets come in two guises, Inside Bets and Outside Bets. The terms are related to the places where you place your chips. Outside bets generally offer better odds, but lesser payouts and almost always command a higher wager than one of the inside of the table.
Outside Bets
One of the most popular type of bets is betting on Red or Black, also known as Even Money Bet. The reason why this type of bet is so popular is because the odds of winning are almost 50:50 although the true odds are really 1.111:1 and if successful this bet will return you bet at 1:1.
Many roulette players use this kind of bet if they want to wager to contribute to the wagering requirement of a free bonus or more commonly if they’re implementing a roulette betting strategy. This type of outside bet offers players the lowest betting risk but also the lowest return on their stake.
Other popular outside bets, that feature the same payouts and chances of winning, are betting on the ball landing on numbers 1-18 or 19-36 and also an odd or even number.
If you’re looking for higher payouts then you can use the Column and Dozens bets. Both the column and Dozens offer a 2:1 return on your wager with a slightly higher risk of loosing of 2.167:1.

Patroits’ Qb Brady Has Foot Surgical Treatment
Posted by Daniel Scott in Games & Entertainment on December 30, 2011
Tom Brady was one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL this period despite playing with a stress fracture in his right foot. With the Patriots eliminated from the postseason last weekend by the New York Jets, Brady has taken the occasion to make sure he’s 100% next year. On Thursday, Brady had surgery to calm his injured foot at a Boston area hospital. The procedure was not considered grave and he’s expected to make a full recovery well before the start of training camp for the 2011 NFL season. Brady had a screw inserted in the navicular bone in an attempt to prevent the stress fracture in his foot from pain any more harm that would result in a full fracture. The first concern is that the screw does not break early in the recovery method, which will necessitate Brady wearing a walking boot for about six weeks. After that, he’s expected to increasingly resume his regular training regimen and every belief is that he’ll be fully recovered by the start of training camp if not earlier.
Doctors familiar with this process stressed the substance of the recovery process. Dr. Michael Kaplan noted that a broken screw is ‘worst case situation’:
“It’s not a big ordeal, but it is an amazing recovery. You can’t stress this area until it’s done healing or prematurely load it because you don’t want the screw to break. If you break the screw, it would be terrible.”
Kaplan clarified the goal of the procedure:
“The stress he put on that mid foot makes it hard to heal. So their curiosity is to get this [healing process] on its style, and the best tactic to do that is a compression screw across the fracture sight, pulling two ends of the bone together, securing it stable and giving it the best milieu for healing.”
